Cell Culture and Testing
Goals:
To gain familiarity with and apply the princples of cell culture to the culturing of PC12 cells from the rat adrenal medulla, and to then measure diffusion of NGF into the culture from a biomaterial scaffold
The cell culture and testing should reveal the efficacy of the hybrid tissue scaffold as a mechanism for drug delivery. The experimental plan has been constructed to provide stark comparison between type of release, or positive control cells and experimental cells. The preliminary testing conducted with 3T3 mouse fibroblasts and BSA will allow for initial validation applied models and methods. This is crucial to the success of final tests that will be conducted with PC-12 cells and NGF.
